About COVID-19 Vaccinations

COVID-19 vaccines help our bodies develop immunity to the virus that causes COVID-19 to provide increased protection against serious illness. For more info regarding vaccinations, please visit the Delaware Vaccine page.

None of these vaccines can give you COVID-19.

  • Vaccines do not use any live virus.
  • Vaccines cannot cause infection with the virus that causes COVID-19 or other viruses.

They do not affect or interact with our DNA.

These vaccines do not enter the nucleus of the cell where our DNA (genetic material) is located, so it cannot change or influence our genes.

Ways to interpret the data

When showing data as percentages, the chart includes gray bars next to each colored bar for comparison. The gray bar represents the percentage of the total population that falls into that demographic category. The colored bar represents the percentage of vaccinations in that category.

When the gray bar is shorter than the colored bar, it means that the demographic group is getting vaccinated against COVID-19 at a higher rate than other demographic groups. When the gray bar is longer than the colored bar, the group is getting vaccinated against COVID-19 at a below-average rate.

Assessing Vaccination Coverage in Vulnerable Communities

Supporting Vaccination Distribution

Combining information about a community's general vulnerability to the harms of disasters — like disease outbreaks and natural events — with current COVID-19 vaccination coverage (percentage of persons vaccinated) can help support and prioritize vaccination efforts.

This map provides such an assessment, depicting CDC social vulnerability data with local vaccination coverage — dark blue regions indicate low vaccination levels in more vulnerable communities; lighter shades of blue indicate more widely vaccinated populations. The goal is to increase the number of census tracts displaying lighter blue colors representing increased vaccination coverage in all communities throughout the state.
